Road Trip

It had been awhile since we'd been able to "get out of Dodge" so this past weekend hubby and I headed out of town to meet up with some friends in Sedona.  The weather was perfect!  Wanna see some pics?  Here they are anyway. :D

This is the Chapel of the Holy Cross in Sedona, AZ.  The exterior picture was taken on the roadway below the chapel.  The interior is furnished quite simply, allowing the magnificent view and the cross to take your breath away.

A mosaic of a dove at the entrance to the chapel.

These weavings were on either side of the chapel.

Various photos of the famous red rock cliffs surrounding Sedona.  The afternoon sun played havoc with my camera settings, but you can still get a feeling for the beauty of the area.

Oh, and yes, there is a lovely quilt shop in Sedona: Quilter's Store Sedona.

I may have to try my hand at designing a landscape quilt or two from my photos. Do you ever feel quiltingly inspired by your photos?

Road trips can clear your head and jump-start your enthusiasm.  Try it!

Mission Impractical

Sewing 144 leeeetle triangles.   Check
Pressing 144 leeeetle triangles.  Check
Squaring up 144 leeeetle triangles to 1 1/4" squares.  Half-Check

Here's an example of where we are today (just for size perspective).
I'm kinda likin' the pinwheel block.  Wonder how cheerful I'll feel after making 36 of 'em?
Time will tell...

(Sorry for the lousy photo...late at night)

Saving Triangles

Over the years I've made many, many quilts and during that process I've thrown away countless triangles.  You know the ones...we clip them off of half-square triangles and flying geese units, hold them in our hands uncertainly for a brief second and then let them flutter into the trash can.  We think about retrieving them and making something from them, but bigger, more exciting projects are beckoning so we sigh a bit guiltily and turn away, leaving the little leftover triangles in the trash.

Well...I finally decided to save these "waste" triangles from a project I'm working on and see if I can make something that will inspire me enough to save them in the future.  Here's what I have thus far:
A pile of tiny half-square triangles in red/gold and blue/gold.  Freshly sewn.  One Hundred and Forty-Three
1 1/4" squares.
Oh my.  What have I done?

Presents!

Yesterday these arrived in my mailbox from Sandi at A Legacy of Stitches.  I won her giveaway and couldn't resist posting the lovelies she sent so you could all have a peek at them too.  (By the way, these are the makings for a sweet wallhanging, and Sandi posted the tutorials here, here and here.  You really need to go visit her blog and give yourself a real treat!)

Here is a photo of all of the goodies...quite a generous lot of sweet things, yes?
See the two sets of snowman face parts?  Sandi knew I was planning to make a southwest (tumbleweed) version of her snowman so she sent me an additional set!  How thoughtful is that!  (The larger lumps of "coal" are actually supposed to be eyes instead of buttons, but they're cute either way.)
Most everything is here to make my own version of Charlie the Snowman...including the chocolate!

Here are some closeups of the goodies.
Note the silver ribbon threaded through the candy dish

A whole stack of lovely snowflake charms

Gotta love those face parts...especially the noses

Here's my "Charlie", all cut out by Sandi and ready to fuse onto the starry background.

Thank you Sandi!

As Mrs. Goodneedle would say, "Life is Good!"
Gratefully,
Gramma Sheri
